1st Day: Today we travel to the worlds largest Amish Community in the Ohio Amish Country. On our way, we'll be stopping in West Virginia at the New River Gorge Bridge, where two overlooks give spectacular breathtaking views of the wild New River and the New River Gorge. At one time, the bridge was the longest in the world. We then travel on to Berlin, Ohio, our home for the next two nights. We will have dinner at East of Chicago Pizza (on your own).
2nd Day: This morning we’ll begin our guided tour of the Amish Country. We will go to the Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center. Discover the heritage of the Ohio Amish Country! See why the people live the way they do. Experience a tour of Behalt Cyclorama–the stunning 260-foot mural-in-the-round depicting the history of the Amish and Mennonites. Enjoy a video, as well as displays, to learn more about local life, faith, culture, and beliefs. We will then depart for Hometown Merchants, a locally owned variety store. They have a large selection of home décor, books, glassware, games, puzzles and more. This store could be considered the Amish Walmart! We will then depart for Berlin to shop in this quaint little town with neat shops and have lunch on your own. After lunch we will head for the Lamp and Light Candle where you'll get to watch Amish ladies create one of their beautifully carved candles! Lots of other things to shop for too. We then head to Walnut Creek Cheese is the largest bulk food store in the area, it's a great place to buy spices in bulk, fresh meats, cheese, they have an in-house bakery that specializes in cinnamon rolls, and the best ice cream (ice cream cones included). The Amish love to shop here for all their grocery needs! We'll make a quick stop at the hotel before heading out to an Amish Home Meal. Enjoy a family-style feast & fellowship with the family. You will learn more about how they live without all of the modern technology. After dinner, we'll head back to the hotel. (CB, D)
3rd Day: This morning we will visit the Warther Museum. Walk through the museum on a guided tour and view the woodcarvings of steam engines created by Mooney Warther, they are priceless works of art! View Mrs. Warther's button collection featuring over 70,000 buttons arranged in artwork. After our visit, we will head home, arriving back at approximately 7:00 PM. (CB)
