Come and spend time with us in Ohio for this fun filled event! Enjoy the beautiful scenery, delicious cuisine, and warm hospitality the Amish are known for. Holmes County Ohio is home to the world’s largest community of "plain" people. The beautiful farmlands, delectable baked goods, and handmade arts and crafts, draw visitors from around the globe to experience a unique, fun, and delicious adventure!
1st Day: We will travel through Virginia and West Virginia on our way to our hotel in the Amish Country, Berlin, OH. We will be here for two nights.
2nd Day: After a Country style breakfast we will depart for a guided tour. A guide, born and raised in the area, will be with you sharing information about the Amish & Mennonite culture. We will arrive at Walnut Creek Cheese, our largest bulk food store in the area. It is a great place to buy spices in bulk, fresh meats, cheese, and has an in house bakery that specializes in cinnamon rolls and the best ice cream.The Amish love to shop here for all their grocery needs! We will travel to Coblentz Leather Shop, owned by an Amish family, third generation working in the shop now. They have belts of every style & size, wallets, purses, etc. Have fun feeding the goats, geese & ducks outside!! We will depart for Millersburg for shopping time, be sure to visit Troyer’s Sweet Shoppe, in business since 1960, now owned by third generation. They offer all kinds of chocolate nut clusters, truffles, fudge, crunchy butter puffs, buckeyes, carmels, turtles, and special cookies and candies for the Eclipse Event. Very unique stores in this historic town! We will then depart for the Eclipse Event buffet lunch (traditional Amish meal) lovingly prepared by Amish ladies! We have fun things planned for the afternoon-musical entertainment-and plenty of spaces outside to view the full sun eclipse. There are no security lights close by to interfere with the view!!! This will be an amazing experience that you do not want to miss. It doesn’t matter if it is cloudy or sunny, it will be a once in a lifetime experience!!!! After the Eclipse ends we will head back to the hotel to take a small break. That evening we will depart for an Amish Home Meal. Enjoy a family style feast & fellowship with the family. You will learn more about how they live without all the modern technology!! (CB, L, D)
3rd Day: We will depart to Hershberger Bakery & Farmers Market, our largest Amish family owned bakery, with the third generation helping out. You will find a full line of baked goods and locally grown produce in the season. Walk out to the petting zoo where you get to pet Big King (the largest registered Belgium horse in Ohio).You will enjoy shopping at the farm store where they have locally made items. We continue our journey home, stopping in West Virginia at the New River Bridge and Gorge, where there are two overlooks with breathtaking views of the wild New River and the New River Gorge. At one time, the Bridge was the longest in the world. After this stop, we contine home with memories to treasure. Arriving back approximately 8:00 PM. (CB)
