1st Day: Upon arrival in Montgomery, AL, we will see the Civil Rights Memorial. Designed by Vietnam War Memorial creator, Maya Lin, the memorial chronicles key events and lists the names of approximately 40 people who gave their lives in the struggle for racial equality.
2nd Day: Today, we will travel to New Orleans, LA. Upon arrival, we will have a guided tour of New Orleans. Our guide will detail the landmarks, legends and splendid architecture that made this city famous. View unusual above-ground Cities of the Dead-cemeteries and marvel at stories of voodoo and piracy on Bayou St. John. You'll see the famous French Quarter and historic Jackson Square, stately mansions, the world-famous Garden District and more. The next two nights will be at a hotel near the French Quarter. Tonight you are free to enjoy New Orleans. You can visit the French Quarter to see Bourbon Street and experience some New Orleans night life. (CB)
3rd Day: This morning we will tour Mardi Gras World: Where Mardi Gras is Made! Enjoy a real, behind-the-scenes look at New Orleans Mardi Gras. You'll see firsthand the hard work and extensive planning that goes into this grand event. These breathtaking parade floats are built not only for Mardi Gras, but for parades all over the world. Mardi Gras parades would be nothing without the fantastical floats and you'll enjoy a tour through the massive studio where these magnificent floats are built from the ground up. There are plenty of opportunities for photos in front of floats, with props, or wearing a traditional Mardi Gras costume. Tours include a display of Mardi Gras costumes, a historic video and a free slice of King Cake (which is difficult to find out of season). Lunch will be on your own. After lunch, we will have a two-hour Mississippi River Cruise. Savor the beauty and romance of New Orleans and take a journey back in time aboard an authentic Sternwheel Steamboat. Your cruise from the heart of the French Quarter takes you back to when cotton was king and life was as slow and graceful as the current on the Mississippi. Following the cruise, the remainder of the day is free to enjoy New Orleans and the French Quarter.
