1st Day: Upon arrival in Savannah, we will go to the Historic District for a unique tour - a Carriage Tour. Return to a kinder, gentler day...tour Savannah the way it was meant to be seen. Imagine moss-laden trees, beautiful antebellum homes, monuments and museums that are over 200 years old. As you take the covered carriage through America’s first planned city (Savannah Historic District), you will learn about the famous and infamous people and events from their rich and colorful history. From General Oglethorpe to characters and places in “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,” your tour will transport you through time. Tonight, we will go to the Historic Savannah Theatre. The Savannah Theatre is the oldest continually operating theatre in the country! We're sure to enjoy the performance at this top rated attraction. Lodging for the next two nights will be in the Historic District area.
2nd Day: This morning we visit The Davenport House, an 1820 Federal-style dwelling built by artisan Isaiah Davenport. Visiting the Davenport House is essential in experiencing the history of Savannah and its historic preservation renaissance. Throughout its fifty years-plus history as a museum, the Davenport House has provided visitors with a true and vivid encounter with a uniquely Savannah story. Next, we will enjoy a Luncheon Cruise on the Savannah Riverboat, which is sure to be the highlight of everyone’s Savannah visit! Re-live a bygone era, hear the Captain’s intriguing tales and historic facts as we tour a river once used by the founders of this beautiful city. Learn about the history of Savannah, her port, modern day and past, and see the statue of “the waving girl.” Come ready to relax and feast on a delicious lunch all while cruising along the scenic Savannah River. You will be free to enjoy the Savannah area on your own at approximately 3:30pm, and can return to the hotel when you are ready. You’ll have plenty of free time to look around the beautiful Historic District and riverfront area. (CB, L)
3rd Day: This morning we will have a guided Low Country Tour that showcases river inlets, marshes and tidal creeks in the small communities surrounding Savannah. We’ll also see historic Tybee Island, Savannah’s beach. While on Tybee, we will stop and visit the Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum. This is one of a few lighthouses that you can climb to the top, if you don’t mind the 178 steps! The view is well worth it! After visiting Tybee Island, we will go to Lady and Sons for a delicious and mouth-watering lunch. After lunch we will make one last stop, at Byrd’s Famous Cookies.
