1st Day: Upon arrival in Atlanta, we will head to the World of Coca-Cola. Browse the world’s largest collection of memorabilia that celebrates the refreshing beverage that was created in Atlanta in 1886. While Coca-Cola was first served at a small pharmacy soda fountain near Underground Atlanta, it is now served over 1 billion times a day and is enjoyed in over 200 countries across the globe. Learn about the legend of the secret formula for Coca-Cola and see the vault where the formula is secured, get an inside look at the bottling process and more. Following our tour, we will depart for dinner at The Varsity. Originally named “The Yellow Jacket,” the name and location were eventually changed to accommodate the crowds. The present structure covers 2 city blocks, and has been visited by numerous celebrities. (D)
2nd Day: This morning we will visit the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the US. With 10 million gallons of fresh and marine water, and more than 100,000 animals representing 500 species from around the globe, you’re sure to see things you’ve never seen before! Home to whale sharks, manta rays and thousands of other fascinating fish, Ocean Voyager is one of the largest single aquatic exhibits in the world. Next, we will travel to the Cherry Blossom Capital of the World, Macon, Georgia. Each March, Macon holds the International Cherry Blossom Festival, becoming a pink paradise, as over 350,000 Yoshino cherry trees bloom in all their glory. We will stop in at the Macon Visitors Center, then meet our step-on guide for a Cherry Blossom Riding Trail Tour. This 1.5 hour tour along a meandering route will be breathtaking! (B)
3rd Day: This morning we will visit one of Georgia’s most historic houses and distinguished structures, the Johnston-Felton-Hay House. Completed in 1859, the Hay House was built in the Italian Renaissance Revival style with stunning architecture, and technological amenities unsurpassed in the mid-19th century. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974, the 18,000-square-foot mansion spans four levels, and is crowned by a two-story cupula. This afternoon we will enjoy the Cherry Blossom Festival (B)
4th Day: We start our day at the Mulberry Street Arts & Crafts Festival. In the Spring, when the cherry trees are blooming and Downtown Macon comes alive, the oldest arts & crafts festival in Middle Georgia attracts thousands of visitors, and hundreds of fine quality vendors and craftsmen from across the country. Enjoy a wide variety of art mediums and handcrafted items. Our final stop will be at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, a prehistoric American Indian site, where many different American Indian cultures occupied this land for thousands of years. American Indians first came here during the Paleo-Indian Period hunting Ice Age mammals. Around 900 CE, the Mississippian Period began, and people constructed mounds. The mounds are flat topped earthen pyramids used as platforms for religious buildings, residences of leaders and Priests, which remain today. After our visit to the Indian Mounds we will head home, arriving approximately 11:00 PM. (B)
