1st Day: Departing for our 1 night, 2 day stay in beautiful and History filled Charleston, SC. Upon arriving in Charleston, we will go straight to the Historic District. You will be free to shop, sightsee, and have lunch on your own. Later this afternoon, we will depart for The International African American Museum where you will be free to explore the wide-ranging exhibitions that tell the story of how Africans and African Americans—through their labor, resistance, and ingenuity—have shaped every aspect of our world. This story of trauma and triumph includes publicly accessible African Ancestors Memorial Gardens and the deliberate, definitive design of our building. After exploring the Museum you will have dinner on your own and check into your home for the night.
2nd Day: You will have a guided tour of the McLeod Plantation Historic Site. Established in 1851, McLeod Plantation has borne witness to some of the most significant periods of our nation’s history. Today McLeod Plantation Historic Site is an important 37-acre Gullah/Geechee heritage site that has been carefully preserved in recognition of its cultural and historical significance. The grounds include a riverside outdoor pavilion, a sweeping oak allée, and the McLeod Oak, which is thought to be more than 600 years old. After your visit to the McLeod Plantation, we will head for home. (CB)
