Texas Highlights

Featuring San Antonio, Fort Worth & Dallas along with a stop at Chip & Joanna Gaines Magnolia Market

1st Day: Upon arrival in Montgomery, Alabama we will go to Oakwood Cemetery, which is legendary country singer Hank Williams' final resting place. Williams is best remembered for such hit ballads as “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” and “Love Sick Blues.” We will also see the Civil Rights Memorial. Designed by Vietnam War Memorial artist, Maya Lin, the memorial chronicles key events and lists the names of approximately forty people who gave their lives in the struggle of radical equality from 1955-1968.

2nd Day: We depart this morning for Lafayette, LA. Upon arrival this afternoon, we will visit the Acadian Village, which tells the stories of the origins, migration, and settlement of the Acadians (Cajuns). In order to recreate the typical 1800s Cajun village, the design had to transform ten acres of farmland into a shaded community with a bayou running through it. (CB)

3rd Day: Board the coach today for San Antonio, TX. Before checking into our home for the next two nights, we will go to the IMAX Theatre. Alamo – the Price of Freedom, is a 45-minute docudrama which tells the stories of the 189 defenders, Texan and Tejano, who chose to die for freedom. The screen is 6 stories tall, 10 times larger than a conventional movie screen. (CB)

4th Day: Today we will have a guided tour of San Antonio, to see the Alamo and downtown sites. The Alamo was established in 1718, and was the site of the famous battle of 1836, where 189 brave men gave their lives for the freedom of Texas. You will also have some time at the famous San Antonio Riverwalk. Stroll along the river and visit shops, restaurants, boutiques and view beautiful tropical foliage. (CB)

5th Day: We depart for Waco this morning. We will visit the Chip and Joanna Gaines Magnolia Market at the Silos. There is a little something for everyone at the Magnolia Market at the Silos - shopping, games, the garden, and even a bite to eat. The Market itself is staged and setup as a place to find inspiration and renewed vision for your home. After lunch we will visit the Fort Worth Stockyards. Discover the living history of cowboys and cattle along the red brick streets of this famous ten block historical district. It is packed with shops and galleries, restaurants, saloons, and stores specializing in western wear and gear. We will continue onto Dallas for the night. (CB)

6th Day: This morning we go to the Sixth Floor Texas Book Depository. Here the life of President John F. Kennedy is highlighted by exhibits featuring films, photographs and artifacts. After the tour, we will depart Dallas and head to Little Rock, AR, our home for the night. (CB)

7th Day: Today we visit the Clinton Presidential Library and Museum. The archives and museum are the largest within the Presidential Library System.
