Natural Bridge of Virginia

Historic Lexington Horse-Drawn Carriage Tour

Today we head to the historic town of Lexington, VA. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a narrated Carriage Tour through the business district, the adjacent college campuses, and a portion of the historic residential area. As your horse-drawn carriage travels the streets of this unique 19th century college town and its captivating history, your professional tour guide/carriage driver will point out many historic places of interest, as well as entertain you with stories and local lore. Some points of interest along the way include: The Stonewall Jackson House, the Historic Business District along Main Street, Virginia Military Institute, Washington and Lee University, Lee Chapel, the Lee House, the Historic Residential section dating back to the early and mid 1800’s, and the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. Following the tour, you will have some free time in the downtown area where you can have lunch and shop on your own. Later this afternoon, we’ll travel to the Natural Bridge State Park. Once owned by Thomas Jefferson and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 215-foot tall Natural Bridge is an awe-inspiring, nature-sculpted arch that soars high above Cedar Creek. Known at one time as One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the Modern World, the Bridge inspired the Monacan Indians to worship it, young George Washington to survey it, Thomas Jefferson to purchase it, and famous artists to paint and illustrate it. Returning home after a wonderful day in the Shenandoah Valley. Arriving back at approximately 9:30 PM.
