Treasures of Ancient Egypt: Sunken Cities

Richmond, VA

Join us as we travel to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA to experience the Treasures of Ancient Egypt: Sunken Cities Exhibition. Upon arrival in Richmond, we will have lunch at Bistro 27, a European bistro located in the heart of downtown. With floor-to-ceiling wrap around windows boasting beautiful views and soaring 20-foot ceilings, Bistro 27 offers a stylish dining experience. Following lunch, we’ll head to the Museum and enjoy a guided tour of this blockbuster exhibition. Dive into one of the most astonishing underwater discoveries of all time. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the recovered treasures of two powerful Egyptian cities that sank into the Mediterranean 1,200 years ago after cataclysmic events. The exhibition includes stunning works of art brought to the surface by archaeologists beginning in 1996. See what remains of these mighty centers of trade, where Egyptian and Greek cultures merged in art, worship, and everyday life. This exhibition will feature over 290 artifacts ranging from colossal eighteen-foot high granite sculptures of gods and rulers, to coins used in everyday life. You may also tour VMFA's permanent collection which spans 6000 years and almost every culture in the world. They have the largest public collection of Faberge Eggs outside of Russia and an amazing Russian Decorative Art collection. They also have an amazing art collection which includes works from Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollack, and many more. There is also a world-class collection of African art, East Asian art, South Asian art, and much more! Departing for home later this afternoon, arriving at approximately 9:30 PM.
