Discover Florence, South Carolina

featuring Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden & Lizard Man

Upon arrival in Florence, SC, we will meet a local step-on-guide to begin our tour. Watch a Lizard Man DVD while we travel to The Swamp Log Artisans Gallery. In addition to Jewelry, Pottery, Baskets and more, the Gallery is filled with products hand made from lumber which is sawn from 'old growth sinker' logs recovered from the muddy, dark bottoms of South Carolina rivers and swamps. Lunch is included today at Harry and Harry Too’s Restaurant, home of the Lizard Man sandwich. The inside decor is amazing, with a large collection of American memorabilia; including movie posters, movie character cutouts, Three Stooges posters, football memorabilia, two tiny ski lift gondolas traveling back and forth at the sit-down counter, and more. There are also news articles about the famed Lizard Man “creature” that was sighted in the area in 1988 and again in 2015. Following lunch, we will head to the Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden. The garden contains over 300 individual plants and these living sculptures showcase Pearl’s astounding feats of artistry and horticulture. Pearl’s garden is internationally recognized, and visitors will experience a place that is beautiful, whimsical, educational and inspiring. A visit to Florence is not complete without a stop at Young Plantations Pecan Store. Shop from a wide variety of southern gifts, gourmet foods, candy, toys and, of course, all of their wonderful pecans! We end the day with dinner included at Lizard’s Thicket Restaurant. Enjoy authentic regional Southern home cooking. After dinner we’ll return home, arriving approximately 10:00 PM
