1st Day: Upon arrival in Cumberland Falls, KY, we will check into our home for the night. This afternoon we will visit Cumberland Falls, located in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Known as the “Niagara of the South,” the waterfall forms a 125-foot wide curtain that plunges 60 feet into the boulder-strewn gorge below. The mist of Cumberland Falls creates the magic of the Moonbow, only visible on a clear night during a full moon. This unique phenomenon appears nowhere else in the Western Hemisphere. The date we have chosen is during a full moon, so let’s hope the weather cooperates so that we can catch a glimpse of the spectacular moonbow. Dinner is also included at the Cumberland Falls Lodge tonight. (D)
2nd Day: After breakfast, we will head to Historic Stearns, KY for an adventurous excursion aboard the Big South Fork Scenic Railway. This trip is full of spectacular scenic vistas, lush vegetation, and mountain streams, as it descends 600 feet into the gorge before stopping at Blue Heron Coal Mining Camp, a National Park Service outdoor interpretive site. This excursion has been judged by many experts to be one of the most scenic railways in the United States. (Note: The train has covered, open-air cars.) A box lunch is included on the train. After the tour we will board the coach for our return trip. Arriving back approximately 11:00 PM. (B, BL)
