Rail & Sail New England Fall Foliage

1st Day: We begin our journey to New England today. Our first night will be in the northern New Jersey area.

2nd Day: Breakfast this morning is included at the hotel before departure. We depart early morning today and begin our journey to New England. Our first stop today takes us to Essex, CT where we board the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat. Our journey begins at the historic 1892 Essex Station for a 12-mile, narrated round-trip into the heart of the unspoiled Connecticut River Valley – designated “one of the last great places on earth” by the Nature Conservancy. The steam locomotive pulls vintage coaches at 20 mph through the picturesque countryside which includes pristine meadows, a quaint farm, a millpond with waterfall, and trestles and bridges over rivers and creeks. Upon arrival at Deep River Landing, passengers are escorted onto the Becky Thatcher Riverboat for a cruise along the Connecticut River. The deep water, coves, inlets, marshes, wildlife, and rocky shoreline are all simply breathtaking! Just as impressive are the historic sights including Gillette Castle, Goodspeed Opera House, and the Haddam Swing Bridge. Lunch will be served on our cruise today. Upon return to Deep River Landing, the steam train welcomes passengers for the return trip back to Essex Station. Following our ride we continue to Vermont where we will overnight. A delicious dinner is included this evening at the hotel. (CB, L, D)

3rd Day: Following breakfast, we will depart for Meredith, New Hampshire, where you can enjoy lunch and shopping on your own. This afternoon we head to Squam Lake where we can enjoy a scenic cruise entitled “On Golden Pond." New Hampshire is famous for its picturesque lakes and mountains and Squam Lake is a gem among many. See its amazingly clear water, rocky shores, celebrated islands, historic homes, scenic mountain views, and remarkable wildlife. This evening we board the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train for a fabulous ride and delicious four-course dinner. Once onboard you will enjoy a scenic train ride in the “restaurant with a constantly changing view.” Recognized as one of the nation’s premiere dinner trains, discover a very unique dining experience be- yond your expectations. From the moment you arrive, you will be swept into an era of the past, experiencing new excitement or the reliving of childhood memories. We continue to our hotel in Lincoln, NH where we spend the next two evenings. (B, D)
