Michie Tavern in Charlottesville, VA and
Monticello: Home of Thomas Jefferson

Upon arrival in Charlottesville we will go to Michie Tavern, one of the oldest homesteads in Virginia. Dine on hearty midday fare in the Tavern’s Ordinary where you are greeted by servers in period attire. Afterwards, a tour of the original tavern features living history where guests participate in 18th-century activities, including a lively Virginia dance. The tour continues viewing the dependent outbuildings, the Virginia Wine Museum, and the Meadow Run Grist Mill. This afternoon, we will visit Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, third U.S. President, author of the Declaration of Independence and Statue for Religious Freedom, as well as a founder of the University of Virginia. Perched on a mountaintop overlooking the city of Charlottesville, Monticello is a majestic reminder of Jefferson’s creativity and talent. No other home in the United States more accurately reflects the personality of its owner than Monticello, Jefferson's architectural masterpiece and beloved mountaintop home. Tours at Monticello range from the intimacy of Jefferson's private suite of rooms, to the sensations of his gardens, orchards and vineyards, to the stories of slaves who worked and lived on the plantation. Returning home after an enjoyable day in Charlottesville. Arriving approximately 10:00 PM. (L)
