Penn Dutch Four Day Tour
Amish Country & Gettysburg
Day 1: Today, we will make our way to Lancaster, PA. Upon arrival in Lancaster, we will check into our home for the next three nights. The evening is free.
Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel, we will head over to Kreider Farms to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a real, working dairy farm on the Kreider Farms tour. How fun will it be to drive down the middle of our "Cow Palace" barn and get a bird's eye view of the milking carousel where 1,800 cows are milked 3 times a day? After our tour we will enjoy lunch at the Cat’s Meow before departing for Hershey’s Chocolate World where a local guide will board the coach for a 1-hour tour. We will explore the town's history & life story of chocolatier Milton Hershey. Our guide will share fun facts, laughter, history and chocolate samples! The tour will also include a 30-minute stop at Founder’s Hall where you are free to explore the building and exhibits on your own. Tonight we will have dinner in an Amish home followed by Chalk Talk with Elva Hurst. Engage your senses through music, storytelling, and the amazing chalk artistry of a former Old Order Mennonite woman who offers insights into Amish culture with a story that comes to life, and lights up before your eyes! This program is uplifting, moving and a thoroughly entertaining experience. (CB, L, D)
Day 3: Today we’ll take a ride through Amish Farmlands where we hope to see the Amish working in their fields or hanging clothes on the line. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to see horse and buggies clip-clopping down the roads. We’ll make a few stops along the way to stretch our legs and shop for homemade Amish baked goods and crafts. You’ve never had a soft pretzel as tasty as the ones the Countryside Road Stand, and you’re sure to want one once you’ve tasted a sample! Next, we’ll head to Kitchen Kettle Village to enjoy lunch on our own. Stroll through the village of 42 shops and restaurants. After lunch we will have a narrated Buggy Ride/Farm Tour. Experience the Amish way of life on a 50-60 minute ride to a real working Amish farm in Lancaster County. Your buggy driver will assist you in getting off your carriage to tour the barn, explain farm equipment, and see cows, chickens, goats and horses. After the ride, we’ll make one more “shop stop” at Riehl’s Quilts & Crafts before returning to the hotel to freshen up for dinner at Miller’s Smorgasbord. After dinner, we will go to the Sight & Sound Theatre to see Jonah. Jonah is a prophet and a man desperately trying to outrun his calling from God — a calling that leads straight to his enemy, Nineveh. After uncharted adventures lead him off a storm-tossed ship and into the belly of a giant fish, Jonah believes all hope is lost. But in the depths, will he learn how to receive grace and extend mercy, even toward those he opposed the most? Experience one of the Bible’s most powerful stories as Jonah’s journey comes to life like never before in this production from Sight & Sound theaters. (CB, D)
4th Day: After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for Gettysburg National Military Park for a Film, Cyclorama & Museum Experience. See the film: “A New Birth of Freedom”. Experience the iconic Gettysburg Cyclorama painting, and explore the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War. The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address". Continuing home after visiting Gettysburg, we will arrive approximately 10:30 PM. (CB)
