Obama Presidential Center/Free Time in Chicago
Free time in Chicago!
1st Day: Today we will make our way to Richmond, Indiana with meals and rest stops en route.
2nd Day: After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to Chicago where you will have free time downtown to enjoy the city on your own before checking into our hotel. After freshening up, feel free to venture out again to enjoy dinner on your own at one of the many restaurants in the area. Perhaps you’ll choose the Green Door Tavern and SpeakEasy. Step into Chicago’s Oldest tavern, built in 1872 right after the Great Chicago Fire. With your complimentary drink voucher, you can enjoy a craft beer or classic cocktail or mocktail along with some great food options for dinner surrounded by decades of vintage Americana memorabilia. For an added adventure look for the secret door near the restrooms that leads to The Drifter, an authentic Prohibition-era speakeasy hidden in the basement. Return to the hotel after a fabulous day in the Windy City. (B)
3rd Day: After breakfast at the hotel, we will make our way to The Obama Presidential Center & Library. The Museum Tower, a 225-foot stone structure, is designed to resemble four hands coming together. A four-level exhibition space housing personal artifacts, an Oval Office replica, and the story of the 44th president and First Lady Michelle Obama. Don’t forget to take the elevator to the 8th floor to see the Nelson Mandela Sky Room for panoramic views of Lake Michigan and the skyline. You will have lunch at one of the few restaurants on site including Tafari’s Kitchen. You will see the specialized President’s Reading Room, and take a stroll out onto the building’s public rooftop garden. Walk through the Women’s Garden and Home Court Athletics facility. Outdoor Grounds Feature the John Lewis Plaza, a 1.25-acre playground, and the Eleanor Roosevelt Fruit and Vegetable Garden, complemented by over 28 public art displays. After your day at the center we will top it off with dinner at the classic Giordano’s for some delicious Chicago style pizza! (B, D)
4th Day: After breakfast at the hotel, we will experience the impressive panoramic view of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan from 1,030 feet above the famed Magnificent Mile at the 360 Chicago Observation Deck. Take a rapid elevator ride to the 94th floor for an early morning panoramic view before the crowds arrive. It's a breathtaking, uninterrupted window into the clouds. After this wonderful experience we will begin our journey home, overnighting in Richmond, IN again. (B)
