Destination Vermont
1st Day: As we depart for our getaway to Vermont, we will travel through Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware on our way to Mt. Laurel, NJ, our home for the night.
2nd Day: The next morning we will check out of our hotel after a complimentary breakfast. Enjoy panoramic views in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts as we make our way to Yankee Candle Village to pick up some of your favorite candle scents, some Christmas ornaments or keepsakes from your stop. Our home for the evening will be in Brattleboro, VT where we will have dinner on your own in the area. (CB)
3rd Day: After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart to Hildene Family Estate. The Lincoln Family Home is the former summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln and his wife Mary Harlan Lincoln. Built in 1905, the 24-room mansion features 90 percent of its original furnishings and Lincoln family artifacts, including one of President Lincoln's top hats. After the tour we will visit the Vermont Country Store to find some treasures to take home with us. Then we are off to see the Quechee Gorge Bridge and Visitor Center. Vermont's oldest surviving steel arch bridge, is the primary viewpoint for the 165-foot-deep gorge. We then head to our accommodations for the night at The Trapp Family Lodge with a wonderful dinner awaiting us. You will have time to relax and get ready for our adventures for the next day! (CB, D)
4th Day: Get ready to enjoy a 5-star breakfast at the lodge. Then we depart to Smugglers Notch where we will see the tallest waterfall in Vermont at Moss Glenn Falls. Then off to take an amazing Gondola Sky Ride! From the top, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Green Mountains and the surrounding valleys. After the adventure of the ride we will wind down in downtown Stowe where there are many stores, restaurants and things to do for all. Take a short walk to Sunset Rock to view the town and Mount Mansfield or stroll over to see the Dewey Memorial Covered Bridge over Little River. We then depart to Cold Hollow Cider Mill and learn how they make cider and cider donuts! Grab some homebaked goods in their bakery. Then head back to the lodge for the evening to enjoy another wonderful dinner. There will be activities you can partake in if you want extra things to do while at the lodge. (B, D)
5th Day: After breakfast we will depart for Lake George, NY. Our first stop will be Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, VT. It is the only national park in the state and tells the story of American conservation history and land stewardship. The park was a gift to the American people from Mary French Rockefeller and her husband Laurance S. Rockefeller. We can visit the farm, museum or the mansion. We will load up and continue our ride to the scenic Prospect Mountain Highway, Lake George, NY. It provides access to the 2,030-foot summit of Prospect Mountain, where visitors can enjoy panoramic, 100-mile views of Lake George, the Adirondack High Peaks in New York, and the Green and White Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. We will land at the town docks to take in the ambience and serenity before entering the Fort William Henry Museum. You will have an expert guide in period attire leading tours that bring 18th-century fort life to reality. Visitors can interact with costumed British regulars, provincial troops, and Native American interpreters. The museum features exciting black powder musket and cannon firing demonstrations that illustrate military tactics of the era. For dinner we will hop aboard a scenic sunset dinner cruise on the Lake George Steamboat Company cruise line. Enjoy a scrumptious meal while taking in the views of Lake George. After the cruise we will head to the hotel for the night. (B, D)
6th Day: Our destination today is Lancaster, PA. We will stop for an exciting ride on the Catskill Mountain Railroad en route. The Catskill Mountain Railroad is a heritage railroad in Kingston, New York, that offers scenic train rides through the historic Hudson Valley and the Catskill Mountains. The railroad provides visitors with unique views of the natural beauty of the region, including crossing the Esopus Creek and traveling through the Hurley Flats. After our ride on the rails, we continue to our Lancaster hotel with dinner on your own in the area. (CB)
7th Day: Have breakfast at the hotel before boarding the coach. We will take a short drive through the Amish Farmlands before hitting the highway for home. (CB)
