A great way to welcome Spring by hunting trolls on May Day! In 2025, Danish artist Thomas Dambo was commissioned to build seven Trolls here in North Carolina as part of his larger project “Trail of 1000 Trolls”. Dambo’s art celebrates the intersection of art, nature, storytelling, and recycling. A lifelong advocate for upcycling and public engagement, Thomas Dambo’s projects continually challenge the boundaries between art, adventure, and activism. His work has transformed landscapes and communities, drawing global audiences into a playful, urgent conversation about waste, wonder, and our relationship with the planet. North Carolina joins at least 20 other states to have one of his Trolls, and they can be found in more than 15 countries! Come with us on this magical journey as we use our Trollmap to locate Little Sally, Big Pete with the Big Feet, Daddy Bird Eye, Mother Strong Tail, baby Dix, and siblings Dax and Dux (the twins playing hide and seek). The trolls are located in Charlotte, High Point, and Raleigh. Once we find them all, we can unlock the secret location for the Grandmother Tree! The “tree” itself is in a remote location, and will not be a part of the tour. Return home approximately 8PM.

Please note: There is a fair amount of walking on this tour, on uneven ground. Please keep that in mind from a mobility perspective.
