History and Witchery

1st Day: We begin our adventure today, making our way north with meals on your own en route. We will overnight in New Jersey and continue on our journey tomorrow. 

2nd Day: After breakfast at the hotel, we will continue making our way to Massachusetts, stopping at Old Sturbridge Village. The Village is a living museum depicting life in rural New England during the 1790s through 1830s. It is the largest living museum in New England, covering over 200 acres. Over 50 antique buildings, three water-powered mills, and a working farm will be seen. Interpreters in period attire demonstrate 19th-century arts, crafts, and agricultural work. After our visit, we will continue to Peabody, Massachusetts (near Salem), our home for the next two nights. (CB)

3rd Day: Although most noted for the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, Salem's history stretches from the 17th century to today and includes maritime heritage, American literature, architecture, military history, and more. We begin our day with a visit to The House of the Seven Gables, the inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 novel by the same name. Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, the house has become one of America's most well-known historic homes. Our next stop will be Pickering Wharf for lunch on your own and free time for shopping or exploring. Pickering Wharf is Salem's premier waterfront shopping, dining, and lodging destination. While you're here, you can see The Burying Point - the burial ground of judges involved in the Salem Witch Trials of the 1690s & Revolutionary War victims, The Salem Witch Trials Memorial, The Custom's House, and more! We end our day at the 1692 Salem Witch Museum. The museum provides an immersive look into the events of 1692. You'll experience the drama of that dark time through thirteen life-size stage sets, figures, lighting, and narration as they witness the web of lies and intrigue of the Salem witch-hunt. In addition, the Witches: Evolving Perceptions exhibit explores the meaning behind the word witch and the evolution of the image of the witch over time. (CB)

4th Day: Today, we say goodbye to Salem and hello to Boston! We start with a guided tour of the city, learning about the rich history of this historic city. After the tour, we will visit Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. Located in downtown Boston, Faneuil Hall is as alive today as it was in 1742 when our nation's fathers proclaimed it "The Cradle of Liberty." You will find hundreds of shops inside and outside three buildings at historic Quincy Market. You'll have some free time to explore the city on your own. Some other highlights we'll see today are Old North Church, where two lanterns shining from its steeple on April 18, 1775, lit the way for the American Revolution. "One if by land, and two if by sea!". And no visit to downtown Boston would be complete without seeing Cheers Boston. Maybe we'll see Sam or Diane!! (CB)

5th Day: Let's start our day with a cup of tea! At the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, you can be a part of the famous event that forever changed the course of American history through a multi-sensory experience that includes live actors, interactive exhibits, and full-scale replica 18th-century sailing vessels! After seeing this ship, we'll set out on a Boston Harbor Lunch cruise. Enjoy views of this historic harbor from the water while enjoying your meal in the comfort of our vessel. We have one or two surprises in store for you in the afternoon. Do you like a mystery? We guarantee you'll enjoy our surprises!! (CB, L)

6th Day: This morning, we begin our journey home, overnighting in Lancaster, PA, along the way. We will travel south to Hartford, Connecticut, and New York City. Evening is free for your enjoyment. (CB)

7th Day: Have breakfast and board the coach for your return trip to North Carolina. Arriving back approximately 7:00 PM. (CB)
